Verstappen after breaking Vettel record: 'I think he's alright'

Max Verstappen has now won more races for Red Bull than Sebastian Vettel managed following his Monaco Grand Prix victory.

Max Verstappen has insisted Sebastian Vettel will not care about losing his Red Bull Formula 1 record of Grand Prix victories.

Dutchman Verstappen secured his 39th F1 victory for Red Bull at the Monaco Grand Prix, surpassing Vettel's tally by one to become the winningest Red Bull driver in the team's history.

Asked what targets he had set himself after securing the record, Verstappen told media, including RacingNews365.com: "I just want to keep on doing what I'm doing.

"But of course, I need to have a good car for that. But I don't know how long that will last. But hopefully for a while. I constantly want to try and improve myself every single year.

"Sometimes, that works out a bit better than other races. But I think I've said it many times, my goal was to win a championship and I did that.

"Now it's about just enjoying the moment you're in. Of course, I try to win as many races as I can, but I've never really been someone who was trying to break records or whatever.

"It's also important to have a good time. And hopefully, you know, work with the people I'm working with for a very long time as well."

'I think he's alright'

Vettel, who retired at the end of 2022, built a reputation as an F1 historian, given his extensive knowledge of the sport from its inception in 1950 through to the present day.

On whether there had been contact with the German since his record was broken, Verstappen replied: "No. I know Seb loves his statistics and numbers but again it's… he still has four titles compared to mine.

"I’m on two, so I think he's alright!"
