Cyril Abiteboul has insisted the Spanish Grand Prix is an opportunity for a fresh start for the Renault team following a mixed start to the 2019 season.

The 2018 best of the rest team, have achieved only 12 points between their pair of Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg, both claiming a single P7 finish each. Much was expected of the constructors ahead of the new season but they have struggled for reliability and have failed to complete the race on five of a possible eight occasions.

Abiteboul wants to use the race in Barcelona as a chance to “reset” after a difficult start to the season.

"The start of the European segment of the 2019 Formula 1 season is an opportunity for us to reset,” Abiteboul said in the team’s preview for the Spanish Grand Prix.

"Overall, it's been a tough start to the year and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix capped off a run of results that fell short of our expectations.

"We know we are capable of much more and we need to target clean weekends and races to make the most of our potential.

“We are motivated as ever to strive for more and we aim for a full recovery in competitiveness in Spain.”
