The title rivals were unexpectedly battling for the same piece of tarmac at Monza after a pair of slow pit-stops. Verstappen lost more than 10 seconds due to a botched stop that has been put down to human error, while Hamilton was also slightly delayed. As Hamilton came out of the pits, Verstappen used his momentum to draw alongside and attempt a move into the first chicane.
