Mercedes PU at 50 per cent efficiency on dyno

– Mercedes says its 1.6 litre V6 power unit has now reached 50 per cent thermal efficiency on its dyno, delivering 109 more horsepower compared to its 2014 counterpart.The current power units were introduced as part of a technical overhaul in 2014 and Mercedes has led the way, having taken 59 wins from 72 Grands Prix, and a clean sweep of titles.In a technical feature published on its website, Mercedes explained that the V10s, used until the mid-2000s, converted less than 30 per cent of fuel energy into power.However, by 2014, that had already been increased to 44 per cent, due to the introduction of power units, and progress has taken place in the intervening years.Mercedes says its...
