Halo gets the go-ahead over Aeroscreen for 2017 introduction

Formula 1 team bosses and the FIA have agreed to introduce a modified version of the Halo cockpit protection system for 2017 following a meeting in Monaco on Friday. With the governing body keen to introduce a solution for next season, it was deemed that it was too late to introduce Red Bull's Aeroscreen, despite it being the preferred option inside and outside the paddock. The FIA's Charlie Whiting promised a decision by July 1 to allow teams to begin finalising the design of their 2017 chassis, with that deadline just a month away, Whiting has signalled that the Halo - which has been more extensively tested - is the safer and most viable option for now.
