Rosberg ahead of Hamiton in FP1

Nico Rosberg set the initial pace in the first practice session for the Bahrain GP. The current championship leader edged out team-mate Hamilton by over half a second. Mercedes held the top two positions during the first part of the session, with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton being separated by a mere 0.081 seconds on the soft tyres. Later in the session, Mercedes stretched their legs to go over a second faster than their previous times – sending out an ominous message to their rivals. But, perhaps more crucially was the gap between the two Mercedes drivers was over half a second when the session came to its conclusion.
