Fernando Alonso pays tribute to FIA safety push; 'happy to be alive'
Australian Grand Prix – McLaren's Fernando Alonso says that he's fine after a scary crash during the Melbourne race, and praised the FIA's continued safety push. The McLaren driver was involved in a huge racing crash with Esteban Gutierrez on Lap 18 of the race, a collision that saw the Spaniard hit the Mexican, then the outside wall, before rolling through the gravel trap at Turn 3 before coming to rest upside down. The race was red flagged due to the serious nature of the crash, as well as the amount of debris littering the track. Neither driver was hurt, although did go off for medical checks.
